symbol editor and library (SEAL)

The AODC has developed a Symbol Editor and Library (SEAL) tool which promotes a common symbology library used for rendering marine features on screen-based maps.

SEAL uses OGC Styled Layer Descriptor (SLD) to specify custom styles (such as colour and feature symbolization) that a Web Map Service will use to render a map layer. SLD allows user-defined symbolisation of feature data and refers to an XML document which describes how to draw specific features.

The complete SEAL library can be viewed and searched at http://data.aad.gov.au/aadc/symbology/. Symbology custodians can also edit and create symbols.
